SHUTTERS:

As with blinds and shades, shutters come in two main styles: composite and real wood shutters. Like blinds, the vast majority of customers choose go the same route when ordering shutters -- white composite shutters.

Because of this, the exclusive offer for Vodyssey members will only include white composite on the order form.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR COLOR

Most popular colors:

Blinds: White, Off-White, Gray, Faux Wood-Stain

Honeycomb Shades: Whites, Creams, Grays

Roller Shades: Whites, Grays

Shutters: Pure White, Off-White

BLINDS:

$

As mentioned, 90% of customers choose a pure white faux wood blind. Faux wood blinds can handle moisture and physical demands in a way that real wood blinds cannot. They are also much cheaper.

The size options being offered for Vodyssey clients are 2" slats. 2.5" slats are another option, but the majority of our clients choose 2" slats every day of the year. If you would like to inquire about 2.5" slats, reach out to us on our website.

The lifting options being offered are pull cord (right side) and cord tilt (left side). This allows the blind to be symmetrical in having a cords on the right side for lifting and cords on the left side for tilting the slats. This is opposed to having a tilt wand on one side and the pull cord on the other. Wands don't look as clean and they are also more susceptible to breaking -- no matter what brand/company you buy from.

An additional surcharge option is available to do a cordless lifting system, with a tilt cord on the left.

HONEYCOMB SHADES:

$$

Honeycomb shades (sometimes referred to as "cellular shades") have been around for a long, long time. They have an amazing reputation for helping with temperature control in a home. Honeycomb shades have a white backing on all shades that reflects the sun's UV rays, and they have cells (viewed from the side) that look like honeycombs -- which trap heat and help to act as an insulator for the home.

The honeycomb shades sold by Love Is Blinds are manufactured by ALTA Window Fashions.

Sizes and Other Options...

Nearly every honeycomb shade we sell to our customers is the 3/4" cell size (pictured right, bottom). Double-cell and smaller 3/8" cells are options, but the number of customers who choose these sizes are few and far between.

The lifting option for honeycomb shades is ONLY being offered as a "cordless lift" system. This, again, is the majority choice that our customers choose -- and the headrail that the shade comes on is a more aesthetically pleasing headrail.

Lastly, many of the honeycomb shades have a "blackout" option. This means that an aluminum lining is placed inside of each cell and ZERO light comes through the shade. This is a surcharge option, but works GREAT for in bedrooms and entertainment/theater rooms.

ROLLER SHADES:

Roller shades have also been around a long time. They have had their ebbs and flows in popularity, but due to the ability to make these shades at a much higher quality -- and the trend back to simple, sleek, modern lines -- these are quickly becoming the most popular choice among many of our customers at Love Is Blinds, and across the nation.

The roller shades sold by Love Is Blinds are manufactured by ALTA Window Fashions.

Options...

Roller shades for Vodyssey clients have the lifting options of coming with a chain (continual cord loop) or with a cordless lifting system that uses springs. The speed of how quickly the shade rolls up, once gently tugged, can be adjusted with a screwdriver turning a key in the headrail of the shade.

All roller shades will come with a cassette valence that is color coordinated to the color of the shade chosen.

NOTE: These shades are very easy to install, but they must be done so in a way that allows the shade to be perfectly level. If you have windows that aren't level at the top (even by a 1/4") -- these shades won't roll up and down properly.

Fabrics come as "screen," "designer," or "blackout."

SHUTTERS:

$$$

Shutters are one of the most quintessential window treatments. Plantation shutters are a clear sign of elegance and charm in any home. They are very versatile in matching with styles from Boho, Coastal, Mid-century, Modern, etc.

Shutters are generally going to be the most expensive type of window treatments, as they are the most customized and have more mass to them compared to a fabric.

Due to the higher detailed process of measuring and ordering shutters, this option is only being offered via a preliminary video consultation with one of our Love Is Blinds design techs. This consultation will be a $50 fee. Our tech will assist with guiding you to what you can and can't do with a shutter, as well as what you should or shouldn't do. At the end of the consultation you'll feel confident in moving forward with ordering shutters OR confident that a different window treatment option is the better choice for you.

To set up a consultation with one of our design techs, reach out to us on our website, and include that you are with Vodyssey.

STEP 3: MEASURE YOUR WINDOWS

There are 2 types of installation:

Inside Mount - Window treatment is installed and fits within the the window casing. (This is generally preferred and most common.)

Outside Mount - Window treatment is installed outside of the window casing.

INSIDE MOUNT

This is the most common window treatment installation type. Installation is easy, and measuring for an inside mount is even easier.

3 measurements are needed:

  1. Width (left/right)
  2. Height (bottom/top)
  3. Depth (how recessed the window is from the wall)

WIDTH:

When taking the WIDTH, you will measure the inside of the drywall from left/right at the top, middle, and bottom. You will take the SHORTEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). This will be your WIDTH.

*Pro tip: we take the shortest width to ensure the window treatment doesn't rub the inside of the window casing at any point.

HEIGHT:

When taking the HEIGHT, you will measure the inside of the drywall from the bottom/top at the left, middle, and right. You will take the LONGEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). This will be your HEIGHT.

*Pro tip: we take the longest height to ensure the window treatment covers the full length of the window at every point.

When measuring the DEPTH, you will just need to make sure the window casing is at least 1.5 inches deep to ensure the mounting hardware will fit.

OUTSIDE MOUNT

Installation and measuring are both relatively easy, but require a keen eye.

3 measurements are needed:

  1. Width (left/right)
  2. Height (bottom/top)
  3. Depth (how recessed the window is from the wall)

If you don’t have trim around your window:

WIDTH:

When taking the WIDTH, you will measure the front edge of the drywall (the edge farthest from the back window) from left/right at the top, middle, and bottom. You will take the LONGEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). Add however much "overlap" you want to cover the window opening and height -- this will be your WIDTH.

  • OVERLAP: It is common to add 4 inches to the width (2" of overlap on either side).

*Pro tip: we take the longest width to ensure the window treatment covers the light that would come through the window casing at every point.

HEIGHT:

When taking the HEIGHT, you will measure the inside of the drywall from the bottom/top at the left, middle, and right. You will take the LONGEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). This will be your HEIGHT.

  • OVERLAP: It is common to add 5 inches to the height (3" above - for the headrail & valence - and 2" below).

*Pro tip: we take the longest height to ensure the window treatment covers the full length of the window at every point.

If you do have trim around your window:

WIDTH:

When taking the WIDTH, you will measure the farthest edge of the trim on the left to the farthest edge of the trim on the right at the top, middle, and bottom. You will take the LONGEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). Add however much "overlap" you want to cover beyond the window opening and trim around it -- this will be your WIDTH.

  • OVERLAP: If you DO have trim around your window, it is common to NOT add overlap to the width (beyond the trim).

*Pro tip: we take the longest width to ensure the window treatment covers the light that would come through the window casing at every point.

HEIGHT:

When taking the HEIGHT, you will measure the top of the trim to the bottom of the trim at the left, middle, and right. You will take the LONGEST of the 3 measurements (to the nearest 1/8"). Add however much "overlap" you want to cover beyond the window opening and trim around it -- this will be your HEIGHT.

  • OVERLAP: If you DO have trim around your window, it is common to add 3 inches to the height (3" above the trim for the headrail & valence).

*Pro tip: we take the longest height to ensure the window treatment covers the full length of the window at every point.
