Short answer: take treatments down before the trades start, store them flat, and measure for new ones after the new windows or trim are in, never before.
Decide what survives the remodel
Blinds cut to the old windows will not fit the new ones, and repainted trim changes reveal depths enough to matter. Anything staying should come down and be stored flat and dry. Anything being replaced is a chance to fix what you tolerated: light gaps, a heavy shade you never raise, cords in a child's room.
Do not let new treatments be measured from plans
Builder drawings say what a window should be. The opening that actually gets framed, wrapped and trimmed is what the treatment has to fit, and the difference between the two is why remodel blinds bought early so often arrive wrong. We measure after the trim is caulked and painted, because that is the number the blind will live with.
Dust is the enemy of anything with a mechanism
Drywall dust works into clutch mechanisms and motor housings and grinds there. If treatments must stay up through the work, bag them. If motorized shades are staying, power them down so a stray command does not run fabric through a dusty opening.
Sequence the window treatments last
Paint, then floors, then treatments. Installing blinds before painters come through means taped-over headrails and overspray on fabric that cannot be cleaned back to new. Treatments are a one-visit install at the end, so there is nothing gained by rushing them in early.
The remodel is the moment for the upgrades that need wiring
Hardwired motorization has to be planned before the wall closes. If shades on a schedule or a wall switch are on the wish list, the electrician needs to know while the studs are open. Battery motors remain the retrofit answer, but a remodel is the one time the better option is cheap to choose.
