The glass beside a front door is a privacy hole in an otherwise private house: a stranger on the porch can read your entry hall at a glance. Sidelights are also skinny, trafficked and attached to a moving wall, which rules out most standard treatments.
Sidelight shutters
Narrow custom shutter panels are the premium answer: they are built to the sidelight's exact width, mount to the frame, and give tilt control so daylight still enters while sightlines close. They also match front-of-house shutters, which keeps the entry composed from the curb.
Door-mounted shades
For glass in the door itself, the treatment has to ride the door. Mounted cellular or roller shades with hold-down brackets move with the swing without flapping. Cordless operation is not optional here; a cord on a moving door is a snag waiting to happen.
What about frosted film?
Film adds privacy but freezes the choice: the glass is always obscured, day and night, and the daylight goes flat. A shutter or shade gives you the same privacy with the option of opening it, which is why film tends to be the answer only where nothing can be mounted.
